Almost-free hair accessories for Faith

Our Walmart still sells fabric.  I always check the remnant bins on my way to the groceries.  Today, there was a bag of artificial flowers for $1.  My thought is that someone picked up the flowers that fell in the aisle, stuck them in a bag and slapped a price sticker on them.  Works for me!

Most of the bigger ones weren't useable for the little hairclips I already had on hand, so they got tossed out.

7 hair clips for Faith for a buck.

I used white grosgrain ribbon around the top of the clip.

Mirror, mirror on the wall....

Found this plastic mirror at a thrift store five years ago.  I thought it was cool-looking, just needing some help.

I finally got around to painting and finding it a home.

Sometimes, completing little projects like this give me motivation to tackle bigger ones.

Forgot to take a proper "before" picture, so this is the backside of the mirror after I had taken it apart and painted the front side.

Closer up to the yucky yellowish plastic, painted over in an equally-yucky mauve color.

The happy final results:  A rescued mirror from the 1980s.
The mirror cost me 3 dollars.  I used black, textured spray paint that I had on hand.

I can take a breath now.

The past 2 weeks:  Busy with mundane, necessary tasks and errands.  And one very sick baby.  A baby that required breathing treatments every 4 hours.

April Pool's Day 4/17/10
McDonald's lunch and videogames after with Diego and Santiago

The van passed emissions.  A nice older gentlemen came up to my window to shake my hand and thank me for my husband's service.  That's always nice.

An hour at the MVD with Joaquin.  We didn't have everything we needed and wasted said hour.  (We returned later in the week with Brother and Sissy and got renewal completed.)

Searched for the perfect hair accessory for Faith's FHC.  Ended up buying supplies at Hobby Lobby and making one myself.   I know what you're thinking:  Black?  My fashionista wanted a black sash on her dress.

Sissy liked how her hair looked after hot rollers.

Grandpa & Grandma Ramos and Maleah with the crew after Mass. (Adri took the picture for us.)

My sweethearts on their big day.

I forgot my camera for two other big events:  The schoolwide Math Bee and the reception for the children who received FHC at church yesterday.

Faith won first place for 4th grade in the Math Bee!  She got 2nd last year, so she was thrilled.  Emilio has stage fright and got eliminated almost immediately.  He's a math whiz, so he was disapointed.

The reception was nice.  There was a May crowning procession right after mass, before the reception.

I like this primer.

This is the last time I hope to have to see this color of pink again on a wall.

I've tried just about every other brand of primer on the market.  This one is a good one.  I really could have gotten away with just one coat, which is a miracle considering how deep (and bright) the hot-pink color was.  I didn't use up the whole gallon, so I am double coating it for kicks.

The room already looks so bright and shiny.

Nothing says "classy" like a self-portrait taken in the garage.

We like spring evenings.
Baby and I sit in the garage and watch all of the kids ride bikes and scooters in the cul-de-sac.

We like cul-de-sacs.
The location of our house being in one sold us more than the house itself.

We like our neighbors.
One of our favorites just needed one of my recipes text-messaged to her so she could fix it for dinner tonight.

We are not hot-pink wall kind of people.

My comfort zone is a good place to reside.  The last time I left it, I decorated a room that made me want to cry everytime I went in to put laundry away.

3 years ago, when this house was purchased, it was our kids' first times in their own rooms.  Violet wanted to go all-out girly.  She saw a nailpolish hot-pink and fell in love.  My comfort zone was nice, warm and happy.  However, I jumped right out into the cold and bought the paint.

The sick perfectionist in me needs to point out that the curtains match the wall perfectly in person.  Just not in pictures.  Some of the stuff was from Ikea.  The wicker headboard was from Walmart.com.  The shelf to hold all of her treasures was from Saver's.  It was 3 dollars and horrendously ugly.  I sanded, primed and painted it.  The table lamp was a steal from pbkids.com.  The bedding and big lamp were from Target.

Violet said about her room:  "It's every little girl's dream!"
That very well may be, but this mother couldn't hack it.  I patiently gritted my teeth and waited for the color to drive her crazy.  Finally happened this past year.  When I was hugely pregnant, of course.

Now that little Jack-Jack is happier to entertain himself and takes great naps, I have started the transformation.  Stay tuned....

Do not give this baby ice cream.

Poor baby.  I caved to his begging and gave him a couple of licks of my Dairy Queen Friday night.  His sweet little cheeks are broken out and raw.

I'll keep kissing 'em anyway.
